carburator cold air intake?
Does anyone run a EFI style intake on a carburated setup? Ive only seen a few before, but I dont even know what this intake would be called. I understand you have to buy an elbow of some sort that would sit on the carb, then you run the piping to an air filter. Does anyone have any pics of their setups?

Re: carburator cold air intake?
Im running what you are talking about. I can get you a picture of it sunday.
Im running the factory FI air box, filters, and lid, then it runs into a spectre hose and into a spectre low profile carb hat.
It wasnt cheap. The low profile hat is more expensive, but the regular height carb hat will not fit under a stock hood. Hope this helps some. I'll try my best to post a pic for you sunday.

I made one too. I use a drop base from an old corvette L88 (reproduction of course...I think about $50). I then cut a hole in the side and made a transition from that to the EFI duct. I did it real fast last year and it looks crappy. I plan on redoing the transition this winter so it look better. It works good! I dropped 2/10th's in the quarter on two different nights that had similar weather.

If you're talking about using the dual-filter TPI air box, the one that wraps around the hood latch, can I ask why? That setup is pretty restrictive from what I've always heard...

Re: carburator cold air intake?
That may be...at some power level. I don't think at 450HP it is a restriction. Mine has the tubes running down to the fog light openings. It certainly is better than using hot, under-hood air. I have been 11.60@117MPH with my 350. Perhaps when I step up to a 406 this coming year, I'll mess around with the intake some more.

I wanted to get some 1/8 runs with the new setup versus the old open element, but by the time I got my carb dialed in it was too late in the season. I still have the old open element, Im going to try to compare next year.

The TPI system will restrict a 450 HP engine.
You might want to look at www.spectreperformance.com. Click on "Catalog", "Air Intake Kits - Muscle Car", the "'55-'95 Universal V6/V8 Kits" and look over what they've got. Some pretty interesting stuff, and, having used one myself, I can say good quality. I used their 743 kit (carb hat, ducting, air filter, rated at 950 CFM) on the '57. Much cleaner than the dual snorkel drop base air cleaner, and the car ran just as fast (or faster - I never bothered with back-to-back testing).
