Considering Performer carb on a blown engine..

Hi all.

Just wanted opinons. I'm considering switching to a 1813 AVS Edelbrock carb for various reasons. In general, on a blown draw-through application, does a vacuum secondary type carb work as well as a DP design when using a blower??

I've seen a lot of roots blower cars out there with vacuum secondary carbs on them...Any thoughts??

It works just fine. I use a QJet on mine, which is a vacuum secondary type carb also.

Hey Damon!

I guess I didn't ask the question quite right. I realize that it will physically bolt on and work, but normally I've always heard theres a little bit of a performance decrease when using a VS type carb vs a DP type carb - mostly due to the lack of a secondary squirter and having to be dependant on a high enough vacuum to open the secondary air valve on a VS carb..

The way I'm thinking, this difference is diminished on a blower type setup due to the more instanteneous flow when you lean into a blown engine - or am I totally way off in my thinking??

Well, in theory, a VS carb can never get wide open as fast as a properly chosen DP for the application jsut because of how it works, that's true. In reality, driving on the street under various conditions, you'll have to try it to see if you notice any increase or reduction in performance. You may find it is more drivable- like if you dig into the throttle in too high a gear and those kind of situations.
