Carburetors and Cavity Creeps

I'm sure i'm aging myself with the Cavity Creeps term, but i thought i would share a tip with you guys if you didn't know it already. I was cleaning my Rochester 2 Jet and when i got to the Vacuum Bell, i knew i couldn't just drop that into the caustic chemicals that i was using for the other parts. The Rubber probably wasn't like new, but i was sure that i would destroy it with the chemicals. then it hit me. i've been using a toothbrush for the little nooks and crevices. why not use toothpaste. It worked VERY well. give it a try.

You mean like the vacuum brake/choke pull-off? Carburetor cleaner doesn't hurt the diaphragm, you can use it for the outside. I wouldn't immerse it though, it's tough to get it all out from inside.

Yes, the vacuum brake/choke pull-off is exactly what i meant. another plus is that it has a minty fresh smell afterwards.

Re: Carburetors and Cavity Creeps

Ahaha...I used heavy duty dish soap with HOT water when I cleaned my qjet when I rebuilt it. But toothpaste??? Mm..I dunno.

I still went back over and used carb cleaner after the soap treatment to get rid of any residue from the soap.
