rough idle and hesitation on acceleration

I have a 91 camaro it was a tpi car. I converted it to a carb. I am running a 670 on a 305 motor. Normal idle is around 700 to 750. At times it will idle at 500 and have a very rough feel to it. Also on a slow acceleration it will bog a little than it will accel fine. At a normal cruising speed it surges like you push the gas then let go of the gas then push again. An ideas? Thanks

Re: rough idle and hesitation on acceleration

While i know carbs and tpi is a little different. I had the same problem with my tpi. Some of the spark plug wires were eaten(13 years not started) and the car would idle fine sometimes and others it would drop and be very rough. Then acceleration would surge sometimes and be fine others. But it would feel like the car had no power right before passing gear and then throw a huge amount of torque and go into passing. It could be a number of things but i would try checking your spark plug wires to see for damage or misconnection and check your plugs to see if any are fouled or damaged.

you may need to fine tune your carb (use a vac gauge always worked for me i forget the # you look for look around you will find it).

While no mention of what brand of carb, there is a reasonably good sticky on the matter of tuning your carb(s).
Sounds like a PV(Holley) issue to me, but loading might also be a problem.(checking to see if floats are properly setup, jetting, etc)

Check your line (fuel) pressures.
Then move onto the timing, checking to see it's all on the up and up.
Check vacuum lines under the hood, to see if anything is loose, leaking, etc.

Finally, get into the tuning of the carb.

The way I'd go, anyway.
