v6 swap to 350 5.7 carb.
I'm new to the club. I removed my v6 and installed a 5.7 carb. I ran into some issues, the car is a 91 and all electrial. I have the harness in and hook up to the engine. I also found out i need the emission's stuff under the hood. I live in virginia and they do vechile inspestion every year. The question is do I install the vapor caster back in and the hose's go were in the engine bay. And will be be anything else I would need to do so I can pass inspection. I don't believe I will need a O2 sensor. They just look for the exhaust and cat's and muffler. thank's for any pionters..

Re: v6 swap to 350 5.7 carb.
If you have to pass an emissions inspection, the carb won't pass - no aftermarket carb is emissions compatable.
If you think they will pass the carb part, then just hook up the evap canister to the third fuel line (as it was) and run a vacuum line to the intake or carb.
There's nothing from the pass side wiring harness that you could reconnect to the new carbed motor - that was all fuel injection wiring, TPS, IAC, etc sensors that you won;t have anymore.
Your questions would be better asked of an actual Va inspector - just ask what they will pass and what they won't. They aren't "out to get you", they just have certain standards they have to follow or get fired/penalized. It never hurts to ask.

Re: v6 swap to 350 5.7 carb.
Thanks,
Can't remeber does the line from the gas tank go to the canister? If so just run that line from there to the cansiter. And a line to the carb. Cool thanks again.
If that dosen't work out for me. Now I bought this engine from prestige high performance out of AZ, now bank rutp. It's a 390 horse and torq the same. with corvette head's 2.02 and the cam 292I/292E duration .501I/.501E lift rought idle.
Can I put in a late 90 intake and throttle body and wire harness? Will that effect the engine? Of course worse case scenaio. Thanks again

Re: v6 swap to 350 5.7 carb.
Doubt it, even with a 350 ECM - that motor is flowing way more air than a TBI ECM will ever understand, and the TBI ECM is gona dump wads of gas on it, making it too rich to run.
Best bet is to find a county/state that you can legally register it in, and get an address there. Can do it in a non-emissions NC county - they won't even look under the hood as long as you stay away from a franchise name inspector. But find out what your requirements are first from an actual inspector.

Re: v6 swap to 350 5.7 carb.
Oh - the third fuel line connected to the canister - the one that ends and points upwards closest to the headlight. The canister won't actually do anything, since it was ECM controlled and you no longer have an ECM. See - that's the issue - anyone that knows what they are looking at will know that if you have a carb on there, NONE of the emissions stuff is doing anything anymore - that's why they might not pass you.

I see. I might have to put a Z-28 intake and throttle body on. and use the emission stuff with 02 sensors. I still have the computer in the car. one off the connections still have to be hook up to it.

All '91 Z28's had TPI. That is a completely different system from what yours had, including the computer. If you got the complete TPI system, including harness, sensors, computer, and fuel pump, you should be able to pass, although expect to have to have the computer custom tuned to live with that cam. And, you may have to replace the cam.
If all they look for in the inspection is the evap canister and EGR valve (they often look for the catalytic converter as well), and don't do a tailpipe sniffer, you may be able to pass with the carb. But, technically, it isn't legal.

i was thinking if i use the TPI intake and throttle body and new harness. And the computer upgrade. Hopefully I don't have to change the cam.

Is it possible to use a fuel pump on the block instead of a pump in the tank?

Re: v6 swap to 350 5.7 carb.
Only on a carbed car - FI needs more fuel pressure than what a mechanical pump can provide - TBI needs 12-14psi, TPI needs in the 40's psi - a mechanical pump only provides 3-7psi. In addition, you'd have to drop the tank and get the fuel pump out anyway - you can't pull gas through a non-working in-tank fuel pump.

3/8" is plenty as long as everything is up to snuff. I was supplying 500 HP (400 n/a, 100 shot) with 3/8" line.
