Fuel / Gas Filter

Just curious with so many brands / types out on the market what are you guys with carbs running? Paper / bronze / other material?

I started researching this about a month ago as I have one of those Russell street filters 40 micron but read they are only good for "up to 300 horses". I am pushing over 300 and think this filter may be holding back my volume as my Z seems to hold back around 4-5k. Like it needs more fuel. My PSI gauge drops, but not sure if that is due to heat as it is liquid filled.
Just curious what filters you all are running with minumum pressure drop. And what you may recommend.
Thanks.

Re: Fuel / Gas Filter

Definitely a paper filter at that HP level. If you're running a QJet you'll want to switch to an external filter (remove the stock filter that's built into the front of the carb). On the cheap, a Fram G3 filter works fine on my mild supercharged 383 (~470HP at the flywheel). You can get as wild as you want from there, depending on your budget.

Re: Fuel / Gas Filter

Thank you Damon. I am running a Holley 650DP and have the Russell filter in between my Carter pump and Carb.

So the bronze filter in the Russell is restrictive? Are all bronze restrictive?

I was looking at the Jegs, Summit, Aeromotive ones and then saw the Holley / Trans Dapt ones that are a really cheap. Are those any good?

Re: Fuel / Gas Filter

Pretty much anything that isn't paper is restrictive. Bronze, screen mesh-type, pretty much anything other than paper in my experience. It's hard to argue with the fow area of a multi-fold (pleated) paper element. Everything else just has the outter circumference to flow fuel through and filter it.
