The missing link....literally, pic included
Okay I'm having a problem with the linkage on my carb for my 84 Z28.
In the pictures:
First picture shows new carb. The part that is touching my middle finger is the part in question. Where the red arrow is pointing is where it used to fit on the old carb, but as you can see there's no place to fit it in.

Second picture shows old carb where it used to fit.

Would this be a problem as to why my car will start with foot on gas but not idle once let off? I thought it was possibly the idle mixture, but that wouldn't hinder the car from staying on would it?

The deal is, the stud that exists in the new carb, is still stuck in the plastic end of the TV cable.
It slides out the back of the cable end after passing a barb that holds it clipped in. Just slide that out and slide the cable end over the stud on the new carb.
No it won't really have anything to do with the idle speed. Adjust that with the idle speed screw, which is the one mounted in the side of the carb body with the spring around it, and the throttle comes to rest against it when you let it go.
Don't expect that twisted-up wire to hold the throttle cable on for more than a block or 2, if that... go to AZ or wherever, and in the Help! section, they have a card with a handful of those little clips.
