fuel filter/ mixture control solenoid problems
fuel filter/ mixture control solenoid problems
i have an 85 v8 lg4 engine with quadrajet carb, the problems i have been having are the fuel reaches the fuel filter but does not go into carb. i can see the fuel because i have an aftermarket glass filter housing unit. other problems are the car stalling very easily. it does turn on and stay on but when i go to give it some gas it stalls. car only goes about 20 mph and has a very noticeable loss of power. code 23 for mixture control solenoid flashes on check engine light, i just had my carburator rebuilt and thats when problem started. any help would be appreciated. How do I go about checking my MCS? or should I check anyhing else?

Re: fuel filter/ mixture control solenoid problems
If fuel is not moving past the filter, problem found.
Get rid of that filter. The Mr. Gasket or whatever brand clear glass filters are a joke, and probably the cause of at least some of your issues. I ran one for about 20 miles only to discover it was choking off my carb.
If you want a clear one, I have a number for a universal Puralator that has about 2x+ the filtration capacity, 3/8 nipples, and has a clear plastic housing. Most of the circle track guys around here use it is my understanding. I've got the part# in my garage at home if you want it. I think it's about $4 at advance.

Re: fuel filter/ mixture control solenoid problems
I just had a stock replacement Fram filter need replaced in < 500mi and a few months.
Could have been gunk from the used fuel tank I installed from my other car that got an EFI tank.
The point is a new filter is the first and cheapest step to take to troubleshoot. That's what fixed my car which was stalling at 35mph.
