Car stumbles but won't fire when cold

Ok, I thought this was an aberration but I guess it's not.

84 T/A, 5.7L, CC Qjet.

This mornign when I went out to start the car, I pumped the gas and turn the key to on to prime the electric pump. Turned the key on and the car started to fire over but didn't. Then it just cranked and cranked and cranked...nothing.

I let it sit for a few minutes, came back and it did the same thing again. Stumbled like it was going to fire over but didn't.

It ran fine yesterday though I had a little issue in the morning, similiar to this but I got it started. Once it fired up yesterday, it kicked to high idle and ran like it's supposed to and then ran fine all day.

Does this sound like a choke issue or is there something else I should look at?
The only thing I can think of is that I had the top of the carb off to replace the TPS and the lever that connects to the butter fly valve on the primaries came off. There are two mounting points on the lever from the choke mechanism where it could have been reconnected. I didn't notice it come off initially so I'm not sure if I put it on the right spot. I will put it on the other slot and try again tomorrow/later today but other than that, I don't know where to look.

It's been in the 40's here lately in the morning and I need to get this figured out because my wife won't be happy if I have to keep taking her truck to work instead of my car...

Take off the air cleaner and manually flip over the choke and see if it fires.

It worked when I did that, thanks! Gave me piece of mind that it still worked. Went out after dinner and fiddled with it. Seems that I installed the linkage backwards. It still installed almost correctly but would bind and not engage properly. Using the diagram from the web site I found out what I did, fixed it and got it working. Fired her up this morning just fine (at 30* outside temp).
