Ever since I have gotten my car back from the shop my choke has been messed up. Now the choke flap is always fully open. Any idea what I can do to get the flap to function correctly? Also, where is the choke heater relay?

 

Well is it stuck/jammed open or can it be closed by moving it manually? Are you getting the 12v to the choke?

What did the shop do to your carb?

 

It opens and closes manually, not stuck or jammed at all. Im getting 14 volts to the choke.
The guy at the shop adjusted the choke along with the idle on it and ever since then my choke doesnt work right. I took it back to them to fix it and he said get a new carb which this one has 100 miles on the rebuild by a reputable shop according to my reciepts (just bought the car a couple weeks ago). Maybe the whole choke unit went out since they put a 25 amp fuse in the choke spot instead of the 20 amp and allowed it to fry itself?

 

Not likely. If a higher amp fuse doesn't blow when the proper amp fuse does, then there's a problem with the circuit, perhaps the choke thermostat itself - but that didn't cause the choke thermostat to "fail".

There isn't any adjustment to the choke thermostat (without physical modification). The shop is incompetent - take it somewhere else if you can't figure it out yourself.

My guess would be they didn't get the choke thermostat spring tab properly engaged with the choke mechanism tang. Refer to the E4ME sticky if you don't know what I mean.

 

Are you somehow getting voltage to the choke even when the key is turned off? If it's getting voltage all the time it will stay open all the time (and drain your battery if you leave it sit for a day or two).

Thanks for the help! Come to find out the shop took the choke out and didnt hook it back up to the linkage. After that it was taking a long time for the choke to warm up all the way. I looked at the connector and part of it was broken off, whether the shop did it or not I'm unsure so I wont point fingers. I replaced the choke with a new one and got a new connector. Works like a charm now.

 

Those choke connectors are ALWAYS broken. Don't know why, but they always are. Glad to hear you got it fixed.
