Low vacuum in gear
My quadrajet has been re-worked by the local carb guy. Just recently he had to make the idle air tubes larger. I am only pulling 2" of vacuum in gear. What would cause this and how can I get my car to idle when I drop it into gear? I've played with the mixture screws but it still wants drop to 500 rpm in gear and almost die. The cam is .230/.230, .480 lift/ 108 LSA. The carb guy says I need a higher stall torque converter. The converter is a "corvette" one, but I forget the rpm's. Please help, I am so confused.

Re: Low vacuum in gear
Your carb guy is at least right about one thing: That "Corvette" torque converter isn't nearly enough stall for a 230 cam.

yea, your gonna need an aftermarket stall. i would think you should have more than 2 inches of vacuum though.

Re: Low vacuum in gear
Thanks for the input, guys. The carb guy said he has spoken to a few people about my car, and they are surprised it even runs. That made my day, geez. So what would cause such a low vacuum? At idle, it's 12". Should it improve with a converter with a higher stall? What do you guys recommend?
