fuel sending unit?
fuel sending unit?
Hi folks i just bought a fuel sending an i have a question about the lines themselves..Or unit it self my old sending unit did not have a male fitting and the one i just bought does..I am guessing that was for the electric fuel pump .. So my question is what do i do with that extra line..or fitting going back with a carb motor.... Question #2 what to do with the wire hanging in the tank for the fuel pump?
Re: fuel sending unit?
Did you buy the right sending unit? Sounds almost like you have one for an EFI car.
The "extra line" is probably the fuel return line (EFI and some carb systems used a return line). If you don't need it, plug it.
The wire.... forget it, I guess. It's not going to be connected to anything on the outside so it shouldn't hurt anything on the inside.
Still, if there is no electric fuel pump what connects the pickup to the feed tube to the engine how does the fuel get out of the tank? If it's an EFI pickup the electric fuel pump itself makes that connection. A carb-only pickup it's a solid line there. Please have a look at that and report back.

Re: fuel sending unit?
take it back and get a sending unit for a carbed car, or check out the sticky on how to convert a efi pickup to a carbed pickup.
Re: fuel sending unit?
Thanx guys i think i will just convert and plug the one with the male fitting..The reason i bought the sending unit is i wanted a new fuel level float sending unit and i didnt want to put it back in the car without going through the whole fuel system besides it it over 25 years old. I dont think the aftermarket offers a carb sending unit.. (At least i never found one......) Thanx again...

The EFI and carb pickup units have the same number of tubes coming out of them: Fuel supply, fuel return, vapor recovery (to the charcoal canister), and vent valve (the white plastic thing in front of the axle).
Are carb pickups even available new anymore? If not, you'll have to convert this new EFI unit to carb style per the sticky in the top section of this forum.
