Car won't idle

I have a '91 with a carbed 350. It will fire and if I keep pumping the gas pedal, it will sort of run. Sounds like it's got a bad miss, but it will stay running. When I parked it about a year and a half ago, it ran fine. I thought i'd get back to it sooner, so i didn't do anything to get it ready for long term storage. Should I drain the tank and start with fresh gas? My hope is that the gas is just old enough to be causing the problem, that way i don't have to go out and buy more parts right away. But if there's anything else i should check first, any input would be good.

Almost sounds like a plugged fuel filter too.

Yeah, I did get a new filter. Hopefully I'll get time to swap that out this weekend. Of course after did the original post, I went and started it a couple more times, now my fuel pressure regulator is messing up. sounds like a constant popping in it. Pressure gauge is bouncing all over. So I'll be changing that too...

I'd definitely drain the fuel if it's been sitting for 2 years. I would also change the filter like you plan on doing. Also pull yoru plugs nad make sure they are "clean", with no abnormalities. I'd probably swap plug wires, cap and rotor as well. Cars don't like to sit. hehe

Alright. As long as time permits this weekend, that will be my plan then. I have a new fuel pressure regulator coming in tomorrow as well. Just looking forward to being able to drive it again.

Re: Car won't idle

I've been busy, but finally got to work on the car a little. I changed out the old gas, and the filter. It did the same thing, ran when i had my foot on the gas, but died at idle. This time when it died, it wouldn't start. I figured I'd start from the beginning, so i tried putting a spare distributor in. I remember when i got #1 cylinder to TDC with the first distributor, the rotor pointed towards the #1 cylinder. When I got it to TDC today, the rotor was pointed towards #8 cylinder. Did my timing chain jump a tooth or something? i moved the plug wires around to match the new location, but it ran the same as before.
