Engine I.D Help please.
Ok someone please help me. i have a suburban outside of my house. ive been looking to get a 350 engine. finally for some reason i checked to see what engine the suburban had and it seems like a 350 but idk. can someone help me identify it by looks?? here is a video of the engine.
the suburban does NOT run but the engine was alfays in good shape because it was new.
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmSoc9kqBek
Someone help me please. hopefully it is a 350. it is not the original motor that is supposed to be in the car.

Re: Engine I.D Help please.
It could be a 305 or a 350. Suburbans did have 305s. The only way to be sure is to check the casting number on the back of the block. I almost got screwed over with an engine i was going to buy on craigslist. The guy said it was a 350 and said it came out of an 86 suburban. Drove to jersey to go see it and the casting number proved it to be a 305.

Its molded into the block and probably covered with a thick layer of grease or paint.

Get a flashlight and a mirror. For some reason I thought it was on the same spot as that circled but on the drivers side. It should say 5.7 or 5.0

Sticker? On the front of the engine? Where?
Don't believe stickers.
The last three digits of the block casting # is usually cast into the side of the block, viewable from underneath the vehicle. Much easier than trying to use a mirror between the firewall and back of the head. The last 3 digits are all you need to identify the block.
