Fresh Edelbrock Swap

Some may have read my posting about the surging or lunging problem I have had since changing from the Stock intake and carb to the edelbrock. I set the carb to the recommended setting of the Edelbrock tech and the car came to life like I had always wanted. I do still have a slight lunge or surge if you will but it is VERY slight. I have ordered the recommended metering rods from Jegs and they will be here today. However a gent told me that I will need to change out the Distributor as well with one with a Vac or mechanical advance. Now even though the car runs out good at this point starting her up after reaching operating temp of 180ish she is a bare to start. Is this due to the timing? Can someone please give me the scoop of what the timing specs are for after i replace the distrib? Or their thoughts on if I actually need to do this?

Well, not sure why you started another thread on this, but you got good advice. You need preferrably a vacuum advance type distributor like 5-7 said before it's going to run remotely right. You'll be able to play with where the initial timing wants to be whenever you have the distributor installed.

If you do a few searches, there's info all over about removing a CCC Q-jet and going with a traditional carb and distributor. I wouldn't jump on re-jetting anything until you have some type of timing advance - which you don't have right now.

Re: Fresh Edelbrock Swap

Well I started a new thread because I was looking for specs. The thread can be killed now because regardless of the opinions expressed the car is up and running like a pop with the Edelbrock set up. I do regret letting the shop swap things out it ended up being a money pit but she is running great with this set up. Five7 thanks for the heads up with the vac advance dissy. MSD street fire dropped in today and turns out the bungholes at that shop ran the fuel line close to the manifold so I was getting some vapor lock too.. Total regret going away from the stock set up but thats hind site now. Just have to love her the way she is now.. She does put out alot more power this way from the old set up that is for sure. I was lucky to have some race boys that owed me a few favors. Until today I have never seen anyone time a car by ear first and then check it with a light and dead on. Moderator feel free to kill all threads that have to do with this problem in order to clean up the board. Thanks to all that lended advice.
