Fuel Pumps for Stock CCC Quadrajet 305
I have a stock 1987 Camaro with a CCC Quadrajet 305 VIN "H". I'm getting conflicting information for my fuel pump. I have the mechanical pump on the block, but one source tells me that I do have an in-tank electric pump, and another source tells me that I don't have one. I have the relay on the firewall and the wiring to the tank, but I don't hear one when I start the car. My car starts, runs, and drives OK, but I'm trying to trace an intermitent stalling problem to my fuel pump, ignition, or carb.
Do stock carbed 305's have an in-tank electric fuel pump?
Thanks,

Since yours is an '87 you have both an in tank pusher pump and a mechanical pump.
I can't hear my in tank work in my 1984, but the pump is a PUSHER pump, which means it isn't powerful (2-3 psi IIRC). To check, disconnect your rubber fuel line at the pump and turn the key to the ON position. If fuel flows freely and is pushed out faster than a gravity feed, your pump is working correctly.
For the mechanical, Carter makes a direct replacement pump that supports 450 HP. I put a brand new Carter on my engine. My only complaint is that outlets are weakly cold soldered and one broke while HAND tightening. Summit replaced it for me and so I taped off and JP Welded the next one (nothing sloppy, it looks perfect).

I've looked under my '84 camaro and I cannot see anything near the tank that implies there being a pusher pump inside the gas tank. I also hear nothing too when I turn the key.
My car runs fine, I'm just super curious.

It wasn't an RPO code. All '87's had it, most L69's had it. Some other carb'd cars had it added as a dealer kit if the owner complained about vapor lock problems.
Odds are your '84 does not have it.

Do you know if there is a RPO code for the in tank pusher pump??

My '84 has no indication near the gas tank that it has the pusher pump either. If the pusher pump fails, the mechanical will still pull gas through the failed pump.
Edit: Another way to tell if you have the pusher pump is to follow a light brown/tan wire that goes into the grommet near the brake booster to under the dash.

Sort of. Pumps are better at pushing than they are at sucking. When the in-tank electric fails, it sets up conditions for classic vapor lock. The failed in-tank pump should either be replaced, or removed.

Can you show a picture? I think I know of the tanish wire on the brake booster, but I don't see how that would tell/do anything in relation to the pusher pump.
Well my '84 is an L69...soo wouldn't it have it? I'm guessing since it was an earlier L69 it wouldn't have it.

That tan wire runs all the way to the back, giving power to the pump. If you have a factory service manual there is a page that shows all the relays under the hood. If you find an extra one near the brake booster, then you have the pump.
Second Quote: Not necessarily. It all depends if a previous owner had the recall done or not.
