got my quadrajet back finally!

finally got my car running after 4 mos of sitting in my driveway! got the carb back and put on, and it seems like just a bit more fine tuning is in order, at 1st the car started up and idled at about 2k-2.5k, so i adjusted the throttle screw..or whatever you call it, still a bit high at about 1.5k. and seemingly very rich..with open manifolds (temporarily) burns the eyes pretty bad, which ive heard means running rich..of course theres the 5 gallons of gas pretty much disappearing in one short run also lol. the quad is not ccc and its dist with vacuum advance..timing is at 12 initial and i believe 34/36 total (its an lg4, and its been a month since i checked timing) the car ran better than it ever has once i got the idle down (it went down to about 900 and stayed after i mysteriously bumped something putting the air cleaner back on) albeit with a few stutters here and there, mostly when i very quickly push the gas.

my only plan tomorrow is to replace spark plugs which were flooded before and not in the best shape,
possibly retard the initial timing to 10*? or just turn the distributor slightly as i dont have my timing light right now. i dont know if that will help the richness..sorry kind of a long newb thread, but just lookin for possible ideas since im pretty new at this stuff. but hey im so happy i can drive it i might pee myself. thanks.

forgot to mention that the carb has slightly bigger jets..and some other things done that i cant remember the names of sorry. learned it a few months ago but have since forgotten a bunch

Re: got my quadrajet back finally!

ok, well i havent gotten the car over the mechanic to help me tune it up yet (mon) but i just want to be armed with a little knowledge before i take the car in. this is whats happening right now. car idles at 1750, very steady and smooth. it accelerates nicely (in fact it feels about twice as fast as before, as its got more air, fuel and spark than before) the only issue is i can really only give it about 1/2 throttle to 2/3 otherwise it will stumble when accelerating..anyone got any pointers? if you need more info to make a diagnosis, let me know.

Re: got my quadrajet back finally!

i get the feeling i need to check the float level, but i dont know what it should be at, and last time i took the carb apart and carefully as i could put it back together i messed up one of the metering rods....so avoiding the whole taking the carb apart aspect would be nice.
