Carb spacer on a 425 caddy motor..?
I have a 79 deville with the 425 motor, and a 800cfm edelbrock.
My main question is about the spacer. The car came with the edelbrock carb and spacer on it. The thing i am wondering about is, its an open spacer. I believe its a square bore to spread bore spacer. However, i dont think its the right one, but someone told me that it wouldnt make any difference in the way it runs. The carb has 4 holes that are the same size, and the intake manifold has 4 holes, two big ones and two little ones. All the holes on the carb are small. So my question is does it matter if it is an open spacer or do i need a spacer that has 4 holes??

Yes its the stock intake. I believe it would be for a quadrajet? I am not positive what this thing had for a stock carb but i think it would have been one of those. Right now my problem is it bogs really bad, it may be something else but im not sure what else to look for and wanted to see if the spacer would be of any difference.

Well if it makes no difference, there is no reason to be buying another spacer. However i wouldnt mind a little bit taller spacer, cuz whoever put this carb on i believe just put the spacer/adapater cuz the linkage was too close to the manifold, and its still too close as they bent the bottom part of it, it works, but it could be better.
Im just wondering what to do next, or what to look for. As far as i know, i think i found lots of things wrong with this thing as to why it ran so bad when i got it.
Not sure if it matters, but the vacuum advance was hooked up to the manifold, and not the carb - Now its hooked up to the passenger side vacuum on the carb.
There was only one gasket. It was between the intake and the spacer i believe, and of course it was the ORIGINAL gasket as far as i could tell, it was all pressed and looked like the original carb ha.. There was NO gasket between the carb and the spacer. It was leaking gas from the base or from the spacer i dont remember but it doesnt appear to leak anymore.
Im not 100%, but i dont think the very rear passenger side spark plug wire was even on the plug, think it was just sitting there and not clipped on the plug.
It had a hard time turning over, timing was off. I changed that, better than before but maybe could use some more tweaking...?
Im not sure if i did anytihng else or not, if anything else i plugged up hoses.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to look for? It idles pretty good, if i ease into the throttle it sounds nice, but if i push it fast it will just bog down and want to die, or die. It does this while driving it, or while just parked. I believe its worse when driving and under load. I would like to think its sometihng to do with the carb, air leak, or... not sure..
