starting a new build need help

I have a 305 tbi with all the bolt ons, I recently got a set of vortec heads off a 350 , i planning on getting a lt4 hotcam , and performer rpm intake manifold, my question is what cfm carb should i go with I want to see how quick i can make this car with what i already have and a few other cheap mods. I've been looking at the summit carbs has anybody tried them? Thanks for your help this build seems to do well in 350's so i 'm assuming it will do the same in the 305 Thanks for your help.

What are you going to do to handle the lift of the LT4 Hot Cam? The stock Vortec springs are completely inadequate, and the typical 1.25" OD valve spring won't allow sufficient valve travel.

The basic CFM formula is CID * RPMs/3456 = carb CFM. That will give you the CFM carb that your engine could use, assuming 100% volumetric efficiency (not likely). Assuming 6000 max RPMs, you would need a 540 CFM carb to feed a 100% VE 305. If you use a dual plane intake manifold (which you should), add a little to the results (like up to 550-600 CFM).

Exactly what Summit brand carb were you looking at? They have several varieties available.

i was just looking at the 600 cfm summit carb in the new magazine sells for like 240 or something like that the heads will be milled to 58cc and have this valve spring kit http://www.alexsparts.com/valve-spri...rf-hyd-roller/ its suppose to be good to .550 lift
