should i switch carbs?
should i switch carbs?
i have a 1983 firebird with a 305 and the quadrajet stock in it. i don't think i am getting as much power as i should be out of it and was thinking of getting a new one from online but i don't know much about matching a carb to my engine. i don't want to spent more then 350 on it. mine currently has all the electric pieces hooked into the q jet. when i unhook them they still don't do much i even took the computer out of my car to check and there is no difference so i would like to do away with all computer items needed to keep car running great. and the choke on the car is electric but i don't know how that will work with no computer if it will at all may be someone can help i was even thinking a manual choke. what are the differences.

if you have a CCC system and you removed the ECU that would make it run bad.
the carb and distributor, ecu all run together.

Go to the FAQ forum. In there is a thread about the differences between 305's and performance upgrades for 305's. See where "replace the carb" comes in the list.
Doing away with the computer is counter-productive to good street performance.
