Engine not getting fuel.

I'm having a problem with my motor not getting fuel from the carb, I just did a v6 mpfi to carb v8 conversion, I'm running a Mallory 3 port adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a carter 600 carb, when I turn the key once can hear the pump kick on and watch fuel flow into my clear fuel filter in the gas line running to the carb, when I hit the key it has enough gas flow going through it to let the motor fire but it dies soon after from lack of fuel. When I open the throttle on my car I don't see or hear or smell any fuel coming out of the carb, what could be the problem? Could my fuel regulator be adjusted too far down and not letting enough pressure to push the fuel all the way through? The nut on the bottom is tightened all the way down to the regulator. Help please.

do you have a fuel pressure gauge to set the proper pressure?

No but doesn't the car have to be running to set that? I'm not getting fuel to the carb to even keep the car alive

Re: Engine not getting fuel.

you may have it set too low? could be a plugged up filter under the car? the pump could be shot? there is a test for fuel volume/flow. i dont have the specs around, but you basically pull the fuel line loose and catch the fuel in a jar to measure how much fuel you have coming out, in a certain ammount of time/seconds. maybe someone has the correct procedure? hope you get it figured out.

Iv got fuel up to the carb and I can see it flowing great in my glass fuel filter up near the carb, but the carb isn't pumping it out

Re: Engine not getting fuel.

your carb might need a rebuilt or a good cleanup, the needle is probably stuck to the seat not letting the fuel entering the bowl

Re: Engine not getting fuel.

Play around with the regulator. Pull the main nut loose and let the stud out some. If you have no luck start the car and watch that clear filter to see if it runs out of gas when the problem occurs. The computer primes the fuel pump but then the fuel pump relay takes over powering it. So, it is very possible for the system to prime and then run out of fuel once the fuel from priming runs out. Also, if your fuel pump relay fails, the oil pressure sending unit is supposed to power the pump when a couple pounds of oil pressure is detected. The unit is located on the drivers side near the distributor, check the 3 prong connector and the attached wires. However, if the oil pressure sending unit is the problem, there lies another problem because this is not supposed to be the initial power source of the pump.

Re: Engine not getting fuel.

i acutally figured out what was going on, the carb needed rebuilt BADLY, everything inside it was gummed up from old laqored gas and out of adjsutment, went through, rebuilt it, re adjsuted everything, installed it and had fuel going through the carb finally but everytime i started the motor it would drain my line and filter so fast it was starving it, so i messed with my regulator and got it fixed.

Re: Engine not getting fuel.

fuel pump primes the motor and the relay and the OPS are both working aswell.

Awesome, that's good to hear man.It couldn't hurt to run an inline fuel pressure gauge after the regulator for future reference. Just to help set it accurately and in case you ever have another lack-of-fuel problem.

ps how are you liking that 20% window tint at night? Still contemplating 20% on mine but night visibility is something I don't want to hinder too much..PM me if this is too off topic for this particular post.

yeah I need to find a diagram on my regulator cause it has a vacuum port on it that I'm in sure about.

And the window tint doesn't bother me at night, I can still see everything clearly and see enough light at night I don't have to worry about backing into anything of anything like that
