Efe stuck closed?

On a stock 305 ccc

If the efe actuator was stuck closed in the exhaust could it cause a back fire through the carb?

If not what would be some symptoms of a closed efe, thanks!

IIRC, the default on the EFE valve is open.

Um.... no, I don't think so. At least I haven't encountered backfiring due to it sticking closed. But it'll sure feel like somebody stuck a banana up your tailpipe when you dip deep in the throttle.

Just pull the vacuum line off the TVS switch up near the intake and apply/release vacuum to it while you watch the arm on the side of the EFE valve move. It's pretty obviousl if it's working properly. There's also a one-way check valve in that line that sometimes goes bad and holds vacuum at the EFE, causing it to stay closed constantly, regardless of engine temp or manifold vacuum.
