Swap

i have a 1992 camaro TBI
I am putting a carb on it with a HEI distributer.
While doing the swap how do i keep all the electrical stuff still working? how do i get the tach to work? will the AC still work? will it even start?
am i missing anything??

i have read this article
https://www.thirdgen.org/carbswap
but it says nothing about what wires to move? what get affected by taking the EFI out or even the ECM out?

random Q, if i leave the computer in and data log, could i still get O2 readings?

Thanks!

Re: Swap

well the ecu harness and the cars main harness is 2 different harness's.
the one that connects the starter alternator hei power the A/C all the gages are on one.
and the injectors,emmissions,O2 sensor, knock sensor distributor connections, lockup for the trans.
i maybe forgeting some but for the most thats it.
and as far as i know when you unhook somthing none of it works.

Re: Swap

i was looking as some wiring diagrams of the TBI cars, and there are 2 wires ( one pink one white) that go into the coil and then 2 wires (one pink and one white) that go into the back of the distributer, then 4 wires that go from distributer to ECM.
the white wire that goes into the coil is apparently connected to the tach.
i am putting in a vacuum advance HEI distributer. on the HEI there are two terminals that say power and tach. i am assuming that if i take the pink and white wires that go into the coil and hook them up to the HEI, pink to power and white to tach. i am assuming that the tach will work as normal??

what are some key points that i should look out for when doing the swap??
Thanks

Re: Swap

You are right. You will have to change the ends on the wires to hook up
To the hei but that's all.
Its pretty st8 forward swap.
Make sure you have the right intake for your heads 55-86 or 87-95
You can always slot the 4 center holes if need to.
Fuel? You can instal a machanical fuel pump and plum to tank or get
A pressure regulator set it down to 5-6 and go from there

When you unhook an input, the output that depends upon the input quits working. Losing one input doesn't cause the rest of the inputs to fail.

So, although I haven't done it personally, the O2 should still send a signal to the ECM, even if the TPS, cam sensor (aka "distributor"), etc., are no longer sending a signal to the ECM.

If you use an engine-mounted mechanical fuel pump and don't have the in-tank electric pump operating, you will need to drop the tank and remove the in-tank pump, and modify the pickup to work like a factory carb pickup. There is a sticky about this in the top section of this forum.

i am using a AFPR and lowering the fuel pressure for the carb.
i gotta think abt that fuel pump issue... will it still work? that whole relay system?
