New to carbs & Ignition question
My first engine build and new to the carb arena as well. I'm building up an LT4 Hot cam, vortec heads, 1.6 Comp Magnum rollers 355 build, static compression around 10.2:1, with an eldebrock performer rpm intake. The car is a weekend/strip car just for fun. Everything has been done with the heads to support the higher left, and did all the due diligence in regards to checking clearances. The motor is assembled up to bolting on the intake (ran out of time before my current deployment) So only big things left for me are the carb and ignition, and I'm trying to get a big order in before I return so I can hit the ground running when I get back.
So I'm looking for some suggestions on a good carb. I'm new to the carb arena as the subject states. I've tried doing some searching around for the engine I'm building up, but haven't found too much helpful for me (and the internet where I'm currently at blows to boot). So some help, suggestions or pointers in the right direction would be great!!
Also looking at this MSD Ignition setup MSD Ignition Is it practical to use this with what I'm currently building? I don't want to waste money where its not due if a stock HEI setup would work fine. From what I've read, I get the impression that it might be worthwhile to go the MSD route, but looking for some opinions from others with more experience in this realm. Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance!!

Re: New to carbs & Ignition question
A "stock" coil in cap HEI will do the job just fine...mine does.
I think a Holley 600 DP will be enough for street use, 750 DP for racing though.
-my unprofessional opinion.

The formula for determining the minimum size carb is (CID * RPM)/3456 . That assumes a single plane intake, so a dual plane like the Performer RPM requires a carb about 15% larger.
So, assuming 6500 max RPMs (you didn't give cam specs, but the Performer RPM is good to 6500), that's 667 CFM for single plane, or 767 CFM for dual plane.
As for the Magnum cam, probably not the best choice. Vortec heads are weak on the exhaust side, so a dual-pattern cam with more exhaust duration would probably make better power.

i think any version of the 750 DP would be good. read through the holley tuning sticky probably need some jets and pv's, maybe not pv's it comes with ones that should be close

You're swapping the TPI to the Carb?
I'd get a mechanical Qjet and call it a day. But then again I'm biased since i run a CC Qjet.
