fuel sending unit

First off my gas gauge is not reading right, I fill up the tank and it only marks 3/4 of tank, I told my friend about this he said it's the fuel level sender. So my question is this, can you replace only the fuel level sender instead of replacing the entire sending unit?

Re: fuel sending unit

No, it is a single unit. ...but before you drop the tank, probe the sender wire and with a full tank check if you have around 90 ohms to ground. If you do, it's your gauge. Wouldn't be the 1st to go bad

Re: fuel sending unit

So it might not be the sending unit at all?
