High Idle
High Idle
Hi!
I rebuild my quadrajet. I have a 1984 Trans Am all Stock LG4 305.
When the car is warm everything is fine.
Now i´m adjusting the choke.
My question: should the high idle cam automaticly drop down or must i hit the gas?
The car starts with 2000RPM the choke plate opens slowly, but the rpm doesn´t go down.
Hope you know what i mean!
Thanks alot
Martin

You must open the throttle in order to release the high idle cam.
The force of the throttle return spring will be enough for the high idle set screw to hold the high idle cam up, even though the choke butterfly has opened.
Basic carb operation for every carb with a choke and high idle cam that I've seen.
