In-tank Electric Pump With Mechanical Pump With Return Line
In-tank Electric Pump With Mechanical Pump With Return Line
I'm swapping my 305 TPI to a carbed 350. Instead of using the Mallory regulator, could I use the stock in-tank electric pump in conjunction with a mechanical pump with a return line, such as the Carter M6626? The in-tank pump works as a pusher and the Carter routes excess pressure through the return line.
Any problems with this solution?

With a return style regulator and stock in-tank pump, There's no need for a mechanical fuel pump......

A couple of members have done it. I don't see any particular problem with it. One concern that was raised is should the mechanical pump diaphragm fail, the electric pump will push fuel into the engine oil.
