ice breaker, first post

Not even a month into owning my first camaro and i am looking into the third gen community. Located in hawaii i picked up an 82 z28 with a stock 4spd for $3500. I dont know much about this car but i do know it is fun to drive. Check it out.
my first desire with this car is cosmetic. and a tranny overhaul. motor is a thing of beauty and I think I did good for only having 3500 into the car

I would never guess there be a third gen found in Hawaii, I like the black top and red gfx. Looks unique, but what exactly are your plans?

the red gfx is actually more pink then red, there are a few around here on the island, I have been seeing a ton since I got it. being my first, I plan on keeping it as long as I can, keeping the color scheme I want to repaint it, overhaul the st-10 4spd, and fix and restore the interior (one hole in driver's seat, missing some standard factory stuff.) it is solid with no structural defects/rust,

Maybe look into stepping up to an overdrive trans. The T56 6-speed is a popular upgrade and will make those steep rear gears into a really pussycat in street driving (the double-overdrive of the T56 is a great match for high 3/low 4 rear gear ratios in a street-driven application- you lose NOTHING in the lower 4 gears, but you have 2 more overdrive gears above it for super-comfy highway cruising).

That's an interesting air filter setup. That's actually a "boost hat" for a blow-through turbo application with a K&N stuck on the front. I know because my buddy's turbo blow-through 72 Chevelle uses the exact same one. A 14x3 open element air cleaner would probably get the job done better and simpler, but I understand the visual attraction having something different looking like that.

Enjoy the car!

great insight, thank you for your contribution, although I like the idea of a highway gear, let alone 2; I am going to have to wait to get it off Oahu first, being military I have little time for building and in Hawaii i have even fewer options for junkyard finds so I think a simple Overhaul kit would be enough for smoothing out the shifts. I thought the air intake setup was interesting, and it is definitely unique and I gotta say it adds its own character to the car and I don't really anticipate a need for more power as of right now.
