dwell sits over 50 degrees need help what to do next
Trying to get dwell set right on quadrajet.
Have a code 41 and 45 running rich
mixture/iab set 2 turns out
when its idling it will move between 35-40 degrees. when I give it part throttle it stays pegged over 50 degrees and iab/mixture adjustments make no difference bringing it down. I can only get it to come back down when I disconnect the pcv hose.
not sure what to check for next?
My quadrajet was bought rebuilt but not sure if the guy epoxied the well plugs. I see a yellow stain around the intake right below the quadrajet.
Thanks for your help.

Try adjusting the IAB and see if that affects it.
If not, probably you have extra fuel leaking into the intake around the well plugs.

You would think leaking well plugs would be dripping fuel into the intake at idle as well, not just above idle (since they are directly exposed to manifold vacuum under the carb).
No, I don't believe that's your problem. Something else is causing this.
I assume the choke is opening fully. What other observations do you have?

Vacuum gauge reads 20 at Idle.
#1 Spark plug seemed normal/doesn't smell like gas.
choke opening just fine.
TPS at .48v
evap canister hose from gas tank is not dripping fuel into canister.
Car runs fine under load. No stumbling.
I also keep getting code 41 (cylinder select error/wrong memcal?). My ecu is from the lg4 305 controlling the 350 I swapped in but searching here says memcal doesn't really matter especially since it's carbed? I'm using a 350 knock sensor already.
I assume the 02 sensor is fine since I can bring the dwell down with pcv unplpugged.
Hey my mechanical fuel pump on there is pretty old. Is it even possible for a bad mech. fuel pump to give too much pressure?
Working on making a winaldl cable see if the data I find can nail it down somewhere.

One way or another, you have too much fuel.
You do the math.
Stop "assuming", start THINKING with an open mind.
Don't argue with the data, it will win every time. Makes you look like an idiot.

What about the canister purge hose to the ENGINE? Have you tried disconnecting and plugging it (temporarily) as a diagnostic test?
Mechanical pumps rarely go over-pressure if they go bad. It's just a lever arm, pushing on a spring, pushing on a diaphragm. Not much to go bad that would cause higher than normal pressure. Besides, you'd see an over-pressure problem most actutely at low idle where the fuel would push past the inlet valve and over-fill the float bowl.

Re: dwell sits over 50 degrees need help what to do next
ok blocked off the canister purge hose and no check engine codes so far and have dwell readings within range. So I guess I need to look for a new filter for that canister.
Only problem now is the car "chugs" on acceleration and the tachometer bounces around when that happens. I think the answer to that is when I wired the tach wire to ground to make a kill switch. I read that can destroy ignition modules. So I'm gonna fix the tach wire and replace the control module. hope that works

It's probably the purge valve that's bad or the vacuum lines/thermal switches that operate it. That little filter on the bottom of the charcoal canister doesn't do much, really.

ok gotcha. I'll look for a set next time I'm at the junkyard.
Also the new ignition module fixed my other problem so it's runnin great now,
Thanks Damon.
