Best pick of intake manifold?
I have finally installed a 350 Vortec out of a 96 Suburban and now i am in search of an intake for it. I already have an Edelbrock 1407 w/ electric choke conversion. i have asked a couple of engine builders and some say to go with the basic EPS for the vortec heads and another told me to go with a RPM Air Gap. I am also trying to fit this under my 92 flat top hood but i have future plans for a sunoco hood from Hawks. The car will mostly be a daily driver with a once a month road race. Not shooting for crazy horsepower right now.
Any other suggestions are welcome.

The EPS is a very good manifold for a stock-ish Vortec (and will fit under your hood). Weiand also makes a manifold series called the Street Warrior that's their direct competitor to the EPS. (FYI: Summit house brand manifolds are re-badged Weiands with Summit's logo stamped on top and a few bucks knocked off the price.)
The Performer RPM Vortec is also a good manifold, though probably a bit of overkill for your stock long block. Hood clearance with a factory flat hood will be tight in the extreme. Sure, the carb will fit, but it doesn't leave much room for an air cleaner so you end up playing a lot of what I call "air cleaner games".
If you want to run a QJet carb, the ONLY manifold that will work is the Performer Qjet Vortec.

Re: Best pick of intake manifold?
I already have the Edelbrock 1407 which is a regular square bore. And that is what i was thinking about the RPM Air-Gap. I had an idea of finding a ultra low profile single inlet air horn and connect it to a factory TPI twin filter intake but then i found out the TPI intake and air horn would run me about $500 when it was all done so i scrapped that idea.

Re: Best pick of intake manifold?
My Brother went with the weiand intake for vortec heads with the same carb and he loved it and I dont think he had any hood clearance issues but he was running a short small filter but that was a preference not a requirement. Had to buy a different throttle and return spring bracket but I think you will run into that with any vortec intake since the bolts are at a different angle
Im running a 3" tall 14" diameter filter on my performer RPM intake with a 1405 edelbrock and you cant fit a piece of paper between the carb stud and the hood so its real tight. Given thats not with vortec heads but the Edelbrock website lists the Both the Vortec and the older style performer RPM manifolds as having a carb pad height of 4.72"
