Re: Fuel pump relay
Mine is near the brake booster, it has a rubber-like mount, that holds it to the relay bar.

Did your car come with a carburetor from the factory?

Re: Fuel pump relay
yes, but it came with a pusher pump in the tank to eliminate vapor lock

yeah, I thought though that it only covered 82-84 models... was your car a 305? My car came with carb and is a 305, however I don't know if it has the intank fuel pump... I am going to do a TPI conversion and if I already have the baffle inside the tank then I don't need to purchase a new FI tank...

Re: Fuel pump relay
car was a 305 LG4, 1987 its now an LT1. All the tanks are the same if i recall. My car was suppose to have rubber lines, but it has metal lines all the way. Only mod i had to do to the fuel system was pull the pusher pump out, put in an FI one which is taller, cut the feed tube a little to fit the taller pump, and i was good to go. no need to buy a whole new sender unit.

As is oft discussed here, the '87 LG4's came with a pusher pump in the tank. late-'83-ish through '85 (reports vary) L69's also had the pusher pump. There was a dealer-installed vapor lock kit available to resolve vapor lock complaints that included a pusher pump, but they weren't very common. My '86 donor car had a thermostat-controlled blower that cooled down the carb when the engine was hot and not running, apparently part of the dealer vapor lock kit, but the donor car didn't have the pusher pump.

Re: Fuel pump relay
So then the only way to verify if my car has a pusher pump is to drop the tank or what? What would I be looking for, if it has the pusher pump, then I wouldn't need a new tank for my FI conversion, right? Just buy a Walbro and I'm set? I was going to ask if there was an RPO code as well, but from memory I was never able to find a label...

Re: Fuel pump relay
If you have an '87 it should also have the two-wire oil pressure switch in-line with the fuel pump relay, tee'd off the brass fitting that also holds the oil pressure sending unit. If it's got the switch it's got (or had) the pump. Reverse may not be the case.

Re: Fuel pump relay
So if this is the case, then a fuel injection pump will work in this tank, right? I won't have to keep the tank at least half full, so I don't run out of gas?

having the following, pretty much ensures that I have an intank fuel pump, right?

so the bottom one (big one on T) is the fuel pressure /oil pressure switch... I could run this off a toggle switch right?

The top one is the oil pressure switch connected to the gauge?

Re: Fuel pump relay
Nah, other way around. The small one should have a two-wire connector that controls the fuel pump relay-you'll have to pull out a wiring diagram to see how it controls it-I can't remember if it's part of the engine or ECM harness.

The larger unit is the OPSU with a single wire connector that controls the dash guage.

Re: Fuel pump relay
im converting my 87 LG4 to TPI and i wanna know where my relay is because i dont see it on the firewall, but i cut a trap door for the fuel pump and i do see a relay screwed in behind the rear seat... i was thinking it could be the fuel pump relay in the next few days ill come back with updates... i think i have to bypass VATS before my fuel pump can get power any ways. TO BE CONTINUED........

Re: Fuel pump relay
I'm pretty sure thats just the connector for the wires going to the sending unit and pump, not a relay
