Need a new fuel pump plan

I am installing a Vortec 350 into my 84 z28 and the engine does not have a mechanical pump provision.

I was thinking of going to a TBI fuel pump setup (pump, sending unit and wiring) from the junk yard and use a return regulator mounted where the old mechanical pump was.

Is this a viable solution? My car does not have any provisions for an electric pump. I have a loud external pump on my Vega and would prefer not to have a loud external pump setup.

Don't bother with the weak TBI replacement pump. Just put a Walbro 255 in the tank and a Mallory 4309 bypass regulator and you'll be good to go. You would think a pump with the capability of making well over 60 PSI would overwhelm a regulator trying to yank it back down to a carb-friendly 6 PSI, but it won't be a problem. Done it half a dozen times already. Plus you'll have extra fuel delivery capacity waiting on-line in case you want to hit it with a little nitrous or something later.

Re: Need a new fuel pump plan

I did a little research on the 4903 and it seems that it is no longer produced and MSD refuses to honor warranties on it. I do have a Mr.Gasket 2015 return style regulator I am willing to try. I figure I'll mount it right on the block where the old mechanical pump used to reside to make things a little cleaner.

What would you recommend for the wiring and would you use the stock carbed sending unit assembly for the pump? Would a FI sending unit make things much easier?

*edit*
I'll ask this question in a more appropriate section. Thx
