Hi guys, new to the site and wanted to see if anyone could enlighten me on the E4ME. I have an 83Z with stock ccc q-jet and stock 305 motor. I've had issues off and on with this Q-jet idle. About a yr ago I replaced the float, accel pump and TPS. It would die on me after driving for awhile and then coming to a stop. That went away till recently. Now after driving on a warm motor, when I come to a stop (clutch in), the rpms hover at 1300 for about3-5 secs then drop back down to 750 where I have the curb idle set. I checked the dwell and it was way off (5-10 deg). I adjusted the IAB and got it to stay between (25-30deg). Still did not resolve the issue. Only does this after driving. Becomes more noticeable on a long drive rather than in town (stop sign to stop sign) but still there either way. Any ideas? I'm thinking vac leak or sticking float but not sure?

Re: davee

I figured out where my idle issue was coming from. There was a small vac hose loose that's located under the port where the air cleaner plugs into the carb. This does not plug into the carb itself but into "t" that goes over to a small plastic canister. Apparently when at first idle before driving, there is not enough vac loss to create an issue. After driving, the vac loss would build and then throw off the idle when coming to a stop. Carb is idling great now.
