82 Berlinetta won't keep idle when hot

I've got an 82 Berlinetta that has recently been acting up. It dies immediately after starting the engine when it's hot. I have replaced the fuel pump but this did not fix the problem. Also, the engine occasionally bucks/misfires when I kill the ignition after driving it. Could this be a carburetor/ gas-fuel mixture problem? Opinions are greatly appreciated.

The bucking and carrying on after powering off is usually high idle setting related. People usually misdiagnose it as a timing issue, however with the ignition off, timing no longer plays part in it. Is this a quadrajet or a holley carb?

next time it acts up when hot, ensure that the choke plate is completely open-straight up. check for fuel in the bowl by manually engaging the linkage and looking for the squirt of fuel into the primary throat. if it's flooding, the qjet throttle needs to be held full open (pedal to the floor) while cranking to clear a flood.

if you have not replaced the distributor a new one is a good idea. inexpensive and will come with a new ICM and pick up coil, both items that like to fail when hot. on top of that the normal tune up items, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

we can walk you through a thorough diagnostic for the carb and associated stuff if you're ready.
