Rochester 4 Barrel Quadrajet Carburetor with Electronic Choke and Blue Solenoid

Hi:

Trying to stay busy in the safety of my garage working on my 1985 Trans Am spring Startup. Doing some basic maintenance, changing the fuel filter ect and I checked the Torx Screws on top of the Air Horn Assembly, to my surprise, they are all very loose. I looked online and cannot find any information weather the Torx Screws should be Torqued Down or Hand Tighten. If hand tight with a 1/4 inch drive, I presume a Star Tight Pattern should be used.

Does anyone know the correct Torque Setting for Rochester 4 Barrel Quadrajet Carburetor. I cannot find any information on this ? I would Appreciate any Help on this matter.

I'm sure there was a "spec" for factory use; there always is, in factories. Out here though, I've never seen it. Hand tight with a screwdriver type implement - NOT something with a handle on it like a ratchet - is fine. Don't gorilla them of course.

Leave the 2 at the very back a bit less tight... when overtightened, the holes they go through get expanded, and the air valve will hang up on them.

Might not be a bad idea to pop it off and tighten the ones for the throttle plate as well.

It’s probably due to the gaskets shrinking over time. Be very careful about tightening these too much. Especially on the outer ones. You can easily distort the upper carb plate and cause sealing issues later. If you do distort the plate the only real fix is to sand down the plate on a flat surface or you’ll have put double gaskets in future rebuilds.
