My 84 Z28 ildes at 1250-1500 rpm
When I first start my Camaro up it idles at around 1500rpm like it normally would with the choke but it usually doesn't come down. The choke stays partially closed and its over 100 degrees here. When the choke is partially closed the throttle linkage does not go all the way to the stop, there is still about an 1/8" gap (from the stop that is). If I hold the choke linkage open and blip the throttle it will close and idle normally. Is there a good way to adjust this so the throttle will actually close?
I have no clue how the auto choke works, please enlighten me.
Edit: The carb is the kind that doesn't have the adjustment screws and it doesn't appear to have a cap on the passenger side that I can adjust (from reading online).

If I'm reading everything correctly then yes, you do need to replace your automatic choke. Over time the spring inside will wear out causing the problems you listed.
The "cup" is the choke housing and it should have 3 rivets/screws holding it on. Drill the rivets out or unscrew the screws and pull the black choke out. You will see a thermostatic coil. Simply replace it with a new one and you're good to go.
These can be adjusted though. Before you tighten the screws or install new rivets you can turn the choke clockwise or counter-clockwise to change how fast the choke will fully open.
Hope this helps.

You know that's what I read online but my car doesn't appear to have the housing with 3 screws on the pass side. It looks like the linkage just goes down into the body of the carb.
