Starts and idles like a champ. Just dies when I put on the gas
Gents,
New to the forum and new to Firebirds. Tried starting the car and it does. However, it stalls trying to put on the gas. Mechanic says the codes don't say anuthing. Put in a new TPS, MAF and still nothing. The ECM seems good too. Has anybody else have a similar problem? My mechanic is swaying me to put in carbs and get rid of all these sensors. Thoughts? Mighty obliged. Cheers

Re: Starts and idles like a champ. Just dies when I put on the gas
it seems you "may" have a low pressure/starvation fuel situation, can you check fuel pressure(you will need to install a gauge)?
also,if your car is a tpi and was sitting they have a notorious habit of needing injectors or having them removed and
properly/professionally cleaned but i would check the fuel pressure first.fuel filter can sometimes be the problem,
old bad fuel or if the sock on the pickup tube in the gas tank is deteriorated or plugged.these are just a few possible issues.
it could be 1 or a combination of all of these things or may be something as well as them.
i would use a process of elimination and you will get it.dont jump the gun on switching to carb too quick.
tpi's are finicky when something is wrong but make so much low end torque compared to a carb.
and use a lot less fuel when set up right.a properly setup tpi will always be better than carb imo.
