Fuel pump not priming
Fuel pump not priming
hey guys so I have an 89 Camaro project but I think this was carb swapped, not even sure if it’s the original engine but I’m trying to figure out what is the next step to Get the fuel pump to prime. I dropped the whole rear and replaced it. The only way for the fuel pump to work is if I hot wire the gray cable from the fuel pump relay. I know my fuel pump relay connector need to be replaced which is what I’m ordering but I have a feeling that it’s something else. I’ve been reading forums that say that the oil pressure sensor control the fuel pump, I’m not sure how true that is. Can someone point me into the right direction?

The oil pressure sensor is indeed part of the system of checks before the car starts. Doesn't usually fail. I would rebuild the bottom half of the relay from those loose wires and get a new top of teh relay to see if returning to stock helps.

PS, the "fuel pump switch" in the diagram is the oil pressure switch that's supposed to keep the pump running when the engine has oil pressure.........

I am going to be the safety policy in this post. I know you are working on the fuel pump not delivering fuel butt... I would address that death trap of a fuel line that you have hooked up to the carb FIRST! In the picture you posted that line runs to some sort of pump on the fender well it appears. I hope you tossed that thing out and went back to the original in the tank setup?

That is, without question, one of the most hacked-up, destroyed, mutilated jackwagons I've ever laid eyes on. I don't think it could be any worse if an electrical tornado got loose under that hood. It's utterly HYEEEEENOUS.
Looks to me like you're at least about 50 steps away from even thinking about considering preparing to get around to looking at maybe getting ready for eventually maybe beginning to work on "fuel pump prime". There are SO MANY things that need to be set right FIRST, that the mind simply boggles.
I see you have a multimeter. You're gonna be needing it. Use it well.
Get yourself a copy of the FSM for that car. Figure out as much as you can of what's all jacked up. AT LEAST get all the bare Big Red Wires (the ones with hard battery on them) connected and insulated so they don't start a fire. Don't even bother with "fuel pump" yet; get as much of the damage repaired that Stimpy did to it as you can, FIRST.
Did you actually SEE this before you bought it? or was this just a parts car that you thought maybe you could get to move itself, one last time, to the teardown location?
