Good fuel transfer equipment

Recently I've had to get some stale fuel out of a couple of gas tanks and get some new gas in a couple of cars. I don't have a good system and have jumped power to the fuel pump which really is a PITA and you still need to tap into the gas line when you get to the elec. I have a hard plastic fluid pump that wouldn't work well at all. I've seen lots of stuff for sale but experience is a good teacher and someone here should know what works and what doesn't because they have already been here. So, does anyone have a good system for getting gas out of a tank still in the car? It would be nice if it has the ability to get most of the gas out of most tanks. As always any help is appreciated.

Re: Good fuel transfer equipment

pressurize the tank through the return line and feed the supply line into a catch can?

has worked for me and you don't need much air pressure-the relief valve will pop off at a few psig

Really? You call that a PITA? My god....I've done that on camping trips, just to start a fast, "lazy-man's" fire!(aka Red-neck fire starter) I guess I disagree with ya there. A jumper wire for the relay? Unhook a fuel line? Run a rubber hose to a jug? The car already has, built-in "good transfer equipment".

naf, that sounds like a good way to do it so I'll give it a try, thanks.

Re: Good fuel transfer equipment

Looks like you could jump out the E to D terminal on the fuel pump relay or the orange to orange wires? If you remove the relay than it would be E to A.

Never done this but diagrammatically it looks like it would energize the fuel pump as described.

Re: Good fuel transfer equipment

In my shop we use the mighty vac vacuum pump for fuel almost daily. Set it and forget it, not going to start any fires and has a large 10 L capacity. The only downside is cost, they run about $150 but are critical time savers for many different maintenance tasks like bleeding brakes, flushing lines, bleeding coolant systems, and fluid changes. I've had mine for almost 10 years with no issues and I let my less careful employees use it regularly.
