Switching to Carb another question?

Well I am still looking into what carb I would like to get. I have a good friend who does a lot of drag racing and he said I need the Holley 4160 750 cfm. That one sounds good however what is the thought on The HOLLEY STREET AVENGER 770cfm would that be too much? Or how about an Edelbrock? 750 with an electric choke? My sig will tell you what I have.

Thanks for the opinions

I like my Edel 750. It is the first carb I've owned. I can tell you though, that Holley beat Edelbrock in a poll on the board a while back. The next time I get a carb, I believe I am going to get a Speed Demon or Holley just to see what the difference is.

Forget the Avenger. Too much buck for too little bang. Get the 4160 electric choke model along with jet kit, quick-change secondary spring kit, secondary spring assortment, 4150 secondary conversion kit (that's what the carb on the 396 in my sig is), and you'll have an Avenger for less money. The extra 20 CFM they claim is moot.

A Demon makes even more sense. More money, but you get more with it. Including a wet-tested flow rating (means more flow for the same CFM rating). Wish that's what I would have done instead of the Holley.

I say get a Holley 750 doublepumper. I think with 3.73's and a worked tranny w/ a higher stall converter..a VS carb will give you problems.

I agree about the avenger, but you do realize that wet rating instead of dry is only worth 20, maybe 30 cfm? Sounds kinda moot to me

Okay, I came close to contradicting myself.

The big diff is that the Demon is more likely to work out of the box than a Holley. And, Demons tend to put out more ponies than the same rated size Holley. But, you aren't likely to get the same boost from Holley 4160-type 750 CFM and Holley Avenger 770 CFM - That's the point I was trying to make.

hehehe just check'n

My jury is still out on the Demon over a holley tho. I have my doubts about thier really being any better. I'm using a Demon on my current project I'm doing for a friend. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll have a better formed opinion on that.
