swapping from TBI to carb

In preporating for my 350 which I plan on building soon I am looking to put headers, intake, carb and distributor in my 90 formula.

I currently have the stock 305, open element, otherwise stock.

I am a 3" single outlet flowmaster exhaust coming in the mail, I am currently ebaying for the headers.

What my question is follows:

Will the Edelbrock Performer RPM and Edlebrock 600 run much better then the stock TBI? Should I wait until I install the new motor to switch to carberation or can I find benefits now?

Also I have the chance to get the Holley Street Dominator for about $100 more. The reason I have theese combinations avaiable is I work at autozone and get a discount on them.

Also can I get the stock HEI from AZ for an earlier 3rd gen and drop her right in or should I mail order an accell hei?

Thanks,

Sean

I'd definately wait til the swap to add any mods. Why do something twice (work-wise ) when you can just do it once.

I'm very happy with carb comapred to TBI. As far as the distributor, that really just depends on how much money you have. I spent a lot on the distributor I have - $340 - just because I had the money for it. If I hadn't, i would have put in the stock HEI in. Good luck.:lala:

Swap the carb on BEFORE you swap engines. This way you will have all of the bugs worked out and there wont be any guess-work. If you do them both at the same time you could end up washing down you cylinder walls with gas because the float is set too high and cranking your new engine endlessly because something else is screwed up.

I agree with evil t/a, it will be much easier to eliminate causes of problems after your swap if you already know the carb, dist, and ignition components are fully functional. It will also give you a little bit of practice in changing out intake and distributor. Most of what I have learned about working on cars comes from doing the same task repeatedly.
