CCC carbs and roller cams

I am thinking of buying a 350 engine to replace my LG4. The engine that I am interested in is a TPI replacement rated at 300 HP from "Goautocenter". Talked to them today and they said this cam would not work real well with my ccc carb. The cam has 214 duration and 452 lift on the intake, and 220 duration and 465 lift on the exhaust side. Along with a lobe seperation of 112. I want an engine with a lot of low end torque and am not interested in anything over 5000 rpm. Would the 2020 comp-u-cam be a better choice? Thank you.

That cam will work with a carb or anything for that matter. But it seems to be geared more towards a fuel inj. setup. If you want lots of low-end torque and not interested in revving over 5k I would go with a bigger motor like a 383 or a big block. For a carb you might look at cams with a tighter lobe separation angle. Hope this helps and maybe someone else can add to what I said or correct me.
good luck,
John

P.S. welcome to the site!

Talked to Dave at Crane Cams today, and he said that this cam should work well with a computer controlled carb. OK, I have two different opinions from two technical advisors, who is right? Barton

That cam has slightly less duration and lift than mine, but may be making it up on the ramp since it's roller. I love the way mine runs, though - you don't have to take it to 6k to get good stop-light take-offs, but it's more than willing to go there.

I think Crane knows what they're talking about.

You don't say what tranny you're running, but the stall makes all the difference in the world on an automatic.

That cam will work great with a carb. Go for it.

I agree, that cam is perfectly fine for a 350 with a computer carb. I have more cam than that (a Comp XE264HR-12) in my 305 with the OE carb, and it passed CA emissions easily.
