Stock Non CC Quadra Jet
Ah, my first post.
First off, just like to say what a great tech board this is. It's my first post, but I've been lurking almost daily for a year. You guys have already helped me out a few times. Enough kissing up....
I have:
1982 Trans Am
STOCK non CC Quadrajet
305 LG4
Posi
80,000 km (50,000 miles)
99% Stock
The reason I have no computer controls whatsoever is because I have a Canadian car (obviously I'm from the Great White North). No AIR pump, no closed loop system, just a cat
I"ve already built myself a dual snorkel air cleaner, made my power bulge hood functional (only 1982 LU5's had functional hoods) and now I realize that my carb can also be cheaply upgraded with new rods and hangers.
I hear alot of "CK rods and B hangers". But this is always in regards to CC LG4's and L69's.
Will this application work in my case? I'm not looking for any huge increases in performance, and I'm not restricted by emissions controls or regulations, or fuel economy. This car is not a daily driver.
Thanks in advance!
Kanuck

Welcome. I hung around for awhile before starting to post as well. Learned boat-loads here.
The secondaries are tuned the same on q-jets whether CC or not. If you haven't already, take a look at the tech articles on q-jet tuning and see if there's anything else you can do.
DR rods are a little better than the CK's. You may not need the B hanger, though, a higher letter may do better. At least until you do more mods (exhaust, cam, heads...).

Yeah, I got the idea that I could change the rods from the "Tuning for Performance" article.
I guess I'll just do the AV tension thing and replace the rods for now as I'm not planning any major mods in the near future. I assume it's not worthwhile for me to do much more until I free up the exhaust.
I'll try looking for some DR or CK rods then. Thanks again!

Just wanted to say thanks!
I adjusted my AV tension to 0 (it was over 1 turn on the screw initially!) and installed my CK rods and a B hanger. I can chirp the tires in second gear and there seems to be a more torque! I can feel a difference!
For the record, my carb had CH rods and a J hanger originally, although there is a very remote chance that they were changed out previously.
You carb guys have been a great help!:hail:
