I used the S/A 770 on my combo and it works nice. It did take a little tuning out of the box however I would buy it again. any questions just ask.

well here is the setup that its going on.. 406 short block its has forged pistions.. vortec heads and the edelbrock intake that uses the vortec heads.. the block has no miles on it its been machined and the good stuff. the guy didnt know exactly what cam is in it..he said that its 3 steps over stock whatever that means.. and then i plan on running the 670 street avenger cam.. i have hooker headers and hooker cat back system.. what kindof horsepower can i see out of this setup and what kindof 1/4 mile times?? and what kindof tuning did u have to do to get it to work??? just so i know?? thanks!!!!!

Well the cam info is kinda needed to make a guess. I have a 350 with Vortec heads LT-4 cam and use the 770. The tuning well I went with a lighter secondary spring........used the Vac guage and tuned the idle air mixture.........and I think the rear float is a little high so I will have to lower that. Not knowing the cam I would guess with a good tune you can make 350+ hp but I think I would use the 770 cfm.

I bought the 770 for my 383 I am building. I am sorta new to carbs also. There are several people who will tell you to get the regular carb, and then buy the stuff to upgrade it to the same thing as the Avengers only cheaper. Thats a good way to do it if you know more about carbs. I have always done TPI stuff and this is my first carbed engine so I spent the extra money to get the avenger. Besides, I read in Chevy High Performance that they have a newer design to the metering blocks. I guess thats good. Either way, get the Avenger, but I would probably get the 770. The 670 would be good if you never want to run higher RPM's. Hhhuuuummmmmmmm....several people have said get the 770

I considered the SA, chose the regular VS 750 for the reasons stated above. I hadn't touched a Holley for two decades (and I didn't really know much about them when I last had one in the late 70's), the conversion to 4150 and quick-change secondary spring setup helped familiarize me with the beast. I'm also cheap; got a full set of jets, a Holley tuning book when I got the carb, saved enough over the SA to pay for 2 test & tune sessions at Bandimere.

I'm running a SA 670 on my 305.. been good to me so far and easy to tune First time firing it up though, the needle and seat were stuck or something and fuel shot out the vent up onto the underside of the hood.

12 second if you can hook it up............but if not lots of smoke and 13's tend to keep mustangs away also........... Please let us know how it comes out.

I used the 770cfm last summer on my 383. Good carb, looks good too and very good out of the box.

I am switching to a 750 dbl pumper that i had earlier on last year before the S/A though. The S/A gave me better response & seemed to improve the low-end a bit. I think i lost in the top-end though.

We'll see this yr.

I just ran a post a couple days ago about this same thing and I changed my mind about the 670 for my zz4 and went with the 770. I get it in a week or so. I started doing research on carbs and how the cfm rating has more to do with cams and flow than just the engine size. That's to say that some 350's could run lean or rich with an identically tuned s/a 670, and others would run well with a 770, while others might just drown. I paid a mere 325 w/ shipping brand new so don't go buying it out of jegs. There was a dealership on ebay, write me if you need info on them stuck_in_toledo@yahoo.com

I won't have it in until this spring. I'm also attempting to rebuild my wc t-5, change the rear and do a interior swap, so it should be a busy but rewarding spring.

That is true.........My 770 is running pretty rich for now. I will have to step it down a jet or two to get the tuning just right with the help of my A/F gauge. But I do love the carb.

2ponchos, its funny how when i got my 406, the guy i got it from said that the cam is 3 steps over stock also, and i still don't know what that means. He didn't know the numbers on the cam. I can tell you that is has tons of low end power, and is good to about 5,000 rpm, which seems like a good setup for vortec heads which have pull in studs. My 406 runs really good with the 750 holley on it, so the 770 would definitely be the right choice for you. By the way, does anybody know what 3 steps over stock camshaft means?

3 steps over stock is slightly smaller than a 3/4 race cam.

I too am new to carbs, just from TBI. I am putting a 770CFM Street Avenger on my 383 I am getting built right now. I don't know much about carbs if any and so I just bought it, then after I bought it my dad told me he could have built it to the same specs for me DOPE. Anyway if you can hookup then 12's easy no sweat. As for me I am hoping for at least 11's or something else.
