Am I an idiot for buying a remanufactured carb?

I order one from Wrenchead.com mainly because of the price. It was $177 delivered to my door. Its a holley 600 vac. secondary w/ electric choke. 80457S is the part number. I was jsut wondering if this was worth the $50 it saved me out of jegs?

For that much money...yeah. you can pick up used carbs like that anywhere for $50 or less. A Rebuild kit is $24 after that.

Working at Advance, I've done ALOT of defective exchanges on reman carbs.

I personally wouldn't get one, especially since a Vac sec 600 Holley is like $219 new at Advance

I'd take it back man

Yeah it runs great if you like having an engien that wont idle. I'm sure you will get used to holding the pedal to the floor to keep it running, and that sucking sound dont worry about it, you will get used to it!

Other than that it is great. Also did you get that back yet from having it rebuilt???

Does the engine run better? Yes? Then it was worth it. Especially since you didn't spend the money (birthday present, right?).

If you have problems with it then, no, its not worth the savings. I've seen good rebuilds and lousy rebuilds. The strange thing is that good rebuilds don't usually cost more than lousy ones- its all the cvare and attention of the person who actually laid hands on the thing that makes the biggest difference.

79 Malibu "beater" w/junkyard 400 SBC, tweaked QJet 4bbl, finally a decent set of heads, a few other tricks. A maddening 13.000001 @ 108 on the motor with little traction. No nitrous runs with the new heads yet.
