Fuel pump questions...

It is a carb related topic...

I just got a Carter Street mechanical pump and I have a few questions...

1) It only has 2 ports. One in and one out to the carb. My stock pump has a 3rd port that is a return line? Can I just cap this one off?

2) My stock pump and q-jet use a 3/8" line, but the new pump is for 5/16" line fitings. Can I just stick a 3/8" fiting on the end that screws into the carb even if it is on a 5/16" line?

3) The new pump is rated at 6psi... will the smaller line cause that to go up?

4) Will I have to re-adjust my carb a lot or not? Does anyone know before I put it on?

5) Anyone know a site to get 5/16" fittings? Hardware stores all say that is an odd size. And to make things worse, I want to plumb an in-line filter/gauge in too that are 1/8" pipe fittings...

Thanks.

1 - if you're talking about capping off the line itself, and not the hole on the fuel pump, it is ok. However, gas vapors will still collect in the tube so it's probably safter to follow the line and disconnect it above the rear and clamp it off securely.

2 - Order flexible fuel line from Summit, looks cooler too and will make the gauge installation a breeze.

3 - Short answer - yes. (Refer to #2) The volume being pumped will remain the same (smaller volume but higher velocity).

4 - No, I don't imagine you should have to do any adjustments to a carb, the carb really can't supply more fuel than is demanded by the engine reguardless of fuel pressure. However, you might want to investigate further. I'm not 100% sure.

5 - Refer to #2
