idle is fast!!!!

I need some help here! I have been driving my car for the last few months, after i did several mods to it, and it has been working fine. All of the sudden, the other day I drove my car home and put it in park and the engine raced up to 1500 rpms, and I kept tapping the throttle and it wouldn't kick down. It usually idles at about 650-750rpms. This is after the car is hot. It just happened all of the sudden. I need some help, please.
Checked the linkage to see if it was hanging up, but it didn't seem to be.

Well something is stuck. Either something in the primary or secondary linkage is binding up, or somehow your fast idle cam got engaged and stuck.
All i can tell you is to make sure that your air cleaner isn't hitting any of the linkages. Also, make sure your electric choke wire is connected. On the same note, it's possible that your choke has taken a dive. That would be fairly obvious, if your choke plates are closed/semi-closed afte ryou are warmed up, there's your culprit.
Or the linkages themselves might be getting stuck.
...ed
btw, everything i listed above is common enough. I have had ALL of them happen to me at least once over the years.

Recently purchased '86 Z28 with manual transmission idles at 1300 or so even after warmed up.

Assuming that it's not the choke sticking, is it likely to cause any problems to just leave it this way or should I adjust the idle down to the normal 750 or so?

Is there any reason the last owner would have purposely set the idle high?

There is something going on here. Three of us have this high idle problem. See my post Carburator questions (extremely long). In my case the fast idle cam is not hanging up and when I adjust the curb idle screw down the engine won't maintain idle and dies. I think its the choke even though I tested it (see post).
