You need to talk to chuck everly...easiest way would probably post to the aftermarket product reviw board, he moderates there, and this would be a good topic for there anyway.
Or you could just email him.

I talked to Edelbrock about this package and this is what they told me. They said " They did the test with a four bolt main(which isnt going to matter horsepower wise being ours is a two bolt as long as you dont run real high rpms). They recommended using stronger connecting rods and forged pistons. They said it will produce 420 hp and if you go with the air gap intake it will produce more. The cam is going to make less vacuum so your brakes aren't going work as good but they will still work fine. You will also need atleast a 2000 stall converter. I plan on going with this same package, but with the air gap intake. If you don't have a stout bottom end I wouldn't go with this package. Hope this helps.

Just use the package and when you start to hear rod knock or see lower oil pressure, rebuild the lower end. It'll hold up for a litle while, assuming it's semi-balanced, been oil-changed and not million miles on it and the piston skirts aren't worn too much.

FastBroker,

Have you ran your car at the track to see what kind of times you would get? I am in the process of building my bottom end now. I am going with the TRW forged flat top pistons and stage 2 connecting rods. I am going to get it balanced when I get all the parts in. I am hoping the stock cast crank is going to hold up. Are you satisfied with the power package?

Fastbroker, What are u talking about? The engine is going to be completely fresh, and how is an intake and cam going to cause a rod knock and lower oil pressure? (not trying to flame, just dont understand ur reply)

Southerniroc posted that you'd need a stronger lower-end than theone that you had. I was assuming he knew you and that you had an older/high-mileage/weaker low-end. If it is to be fresh, you'll be fine. I was just saying if it was old and on my car, I'd use it anyway... With me?

R U gonna use stock pieces on the rebuild or upgrade crank/pistons/rods???

edit: Most of my installed packages have been in one-off steet/off-road vehicles and in modified race trucks. I have not taken a third-gen to the track with that kit but someone with 400hp HONEST/DYNOED horsepower (and moderate chassis/hookup woork) will have comparable numbers for you.

I have that package on my 305 (except the heads) which is a low compression lg4 and the thing has tons of ***** for a puny 305. I also used the header and y pipe kit from edlebrock. Smoke every damn stang out there with a automatic and a 305!

Well when I am not using my two bolt main. I am going with a 4 bolt with some heavy duty factory rods, I am getting a turned 2 piece rear main crank and using it. my pushrods are comps hardened pushrods(dont think they are chrome moly, because they only cost me 50 bucks). The rods have the X on them which shows that they are extra duty factory rods? I will be upgrading the rod bolts to a stronger type, though. I hope my bottom end will hold this and a 150 shot of juice. Hopefully my tranny or rear end will give before my motor does

Ya know, that Edelbrock cam may not be the hot setup w/nitrous shot... I'm not a nitrous master by any means and I would find someone who could "ok" that cam for your use. Like COMP cams or Edelbrock tech or NO2 shop.
