Damn... now my carb is fouled and I think it is the new pump!
Now for the 3rd time this week, my car is not working. First was the bolt that help the old pump on, next was the dead battery on the way home from the shop that drilled it out, and now it appears that the carb and maybe the plugs are fouled due to the carb running too rich from the high volume pump! I am praying that a bit of carb cleaner will help get the car home, but my wife is NOT going to like this...

Well, I sprayed half a bottle of cleaner down the thing and it still won't fire. It tries like hell, but no go. The battery is fully charged... heck, it's only 1 day old!
Pulling a plug is not an option right now, but disconnecting the MSD box is... may try that because I am despirate!

Don't even tell me you put on a high volume pump on a street car. The mechanical fuel pumps may be set at ~7 psi but still deliver to much volume for you application resulting in overpowered needles and seats and a flooded engine. Please Please tell me that your pump is not electric w/o a regulator. You didn't specify but if it is don't get me started.............

It is a mechanical street pump rated at 6psi. With the stock pump, I was running way lean. A few others run the same pump with less mods to their 350 with no problems. There is another guy (slickrock55) that may have exactly the same problem in another post on this page.
Should the line going from the pump to the carb maintain 5-6 psi when the car is not on? Due to a lack of proper fittings, I cannot hook up my fuel pressure gauge just yet, but it is very stiff when the car is off.

If it's the Carter 6PSI street pump then that's not your problem. What may be your problem is fuel line crud finding its way into the needle/seat assy. when you first fired it up with the new pump. All the lines between the pump and the carb got disturbed in the process and it's possible it sent crud up to the carb. If it's badly crudded up you will get fuel just spewing out of every vent in the carb as you crank the motor. DId you replace the fuel filter in the nose of the carb or replace it with a nice in-line filter in front of the carb? you didn't fire it up without a fuel filter, did you?
Fuel pressure will stay at 5-6 PSI for a minute or so after turning off the car until the tiny bleed-back holes in the fuel pump valves release the pressure.

I think you may be on to something Damon. I DO have the filter in the nose of the carb, but I also have an inline filter waiting to go on once I get some fittings. I shall toss the old filter and put the inline one on this weekend.
If that is my problem, is it the filter that is crudded up, or is there actually stuff in the carb passages? It seems to run OK this morning... maybe it passed through?
