Your PCV valve shouldn't need to touched.
The PCV doesn't/shouldn't go to the old air cleaner.
The vac. line for PCV should go to a large vac. port on the base of your TBI/carb. (you didn't state which you had.

I think he meant his breather filter. YOu can do whatever you want with it. Leave it float in the engine compartment, remove the tube and stick it straight in the valve cover, or go buy a nice chrome push in style breather for a small valave cover hole (most aftermarket breathers are made for 1.25" holes, they will not fit stock VCs.)
